A New Day in Golf
As the dust begins to settle on one of the most shocking moves in golf, we ask ourselves “what does this mean?” Former world #1 Jason Day has just made the move from Nike to Malbon Golf as his apparel partner on tour. Citing Nikes lack of originality in their apparel offerings as a motivating factor for the switch.
Since Covid we’ve seen a spike in the number of new golfers. Golfers who are less tied to the old world esthetics of golf, and who are looking to express themselves in a non traditional fashion. Enter Malbon- expertly blending streetwear culture and classic golf designs, they’ve been leading the charge in taking golf fashion into the future.
This move marks the beginning of what we think will be one of the biggest shifts in golf, bringing personal fashion to the course and finding new ways for the world's best to strut their stuff on the greens. Leading to a trickle down effect for the entire golf ecosystem. Could this eventually mean more relaxed dress in clubhouses? More colorful options for polos and golf shoes? Finally saying goodbye to boring OEM headcovers? What we know for sure is that pro and amateur golfers alike are starting to demand more from traditional golf brands in terms of originality and design, and companies like Malbon and Dormie Workshop are ready to fill that void. Jason teeing it off in the Tournament of Champions at Kapalua will be a true trailblazing moment, and a great opportunity to see the direction that golf fashion is headed. We can’t wait to see how this new partnership grows our beautiful game.
