Meet Lieutenant Dan. An orange tabby cat amputee. What he’s missing in digits, he makes up for in big, shining personality.
“The story of Lt. Dan started outside my veterinarian wife’s clinic, he was left outside in a shoebox” his owner, Anuj, explains. Unfortunately, he had a badly broken leg, and they had to amputate. That didn’t slow him down one bit, and Anuj and his wife adopted the 3 legged cat.
“As we thought of tripod cat names, I immediately thought of Forrest Gump saying, ‘But you ain't got no legs, Lt. Dan.’”
The name stuck. Just like his movie counterpart, this Lt. Dan is full of grit, mischief, and charm. At home, he quickly became the center of daily life; grooming his older cat sister, wrestling with the family pit bull, and keeping a protective eye on the baby.
“One of his favorite pastimes is watching Dad putt in the office and batting the ball away or laying in his line,” Anuj says. “In the middle of the night, we hear him rolling balls across the entire house. He loves to watch golf on TV with Dad and paws at the ball on the screen, leaving his little paw marks. He’s become my putting and chipping buddy in the living room, and we knew we needed a way to specially commemorate him.”
So we had to do something special, with a cover paying homage to both Lt. Dans. Complete with hippie headband, dangling dog tags and even a tiny leather cigarette hanging from his lips. The result? A totally one-of-a-kind Dormie headcover, and one of our favorite pieces ever.
